About me

I'm Musta, your licensed guide to Morocco's mountains and desert

My name is AIT ISHA Mustapha, but everyone calls me Musta. I'm Amazigh, born in the Central High Atlas, and I'm a licensed tour guide in the natural landscape category. My job is to open the door to my homeland for you: its mountains, its valleys, its desert and the people who live there.

My story

From the Central High Atlas to trails all over Morocco

I grew up among the mountains, surrounded by the Amazigh culture I now share with the people who travel with me. In 2003 I trained at CFAMM, the Centre de Formation aux Métiers de Montagne, and ever since, my life has revolved around travel: dreaming up routes, walking them to check them, choosing where to sleep and eat and, above all, guiding groups and travellers.

I know the marked trails and the ones you will not find on any map. Along the way I love telling stories, with a sense of humour and no rush, because a trip stays with you as much for its people as for its landscapes. I speak fluent Spanish and French, and English too.

What I do

Trips through Morocco's natural landscapes

Active, cultural, wildlife, adventure, food, photography or cycling trips: organising such different journeys is no easy task, which is why I focus on what I know best, the great outdoors.

  1. Day trips

One-day escapes to discover valleys, villages and landscapes without staying overnight.

  2. Trekking

One-day or multi-day hikes in the Atlas and other ranges, at the group's own pace.

  3. Cycling routes

Mountain bike rides along tracks and valleys, to see the country from the saddle.

  4. Desert

Dunes, oases and nights under the stars in desert camps.

  5. Mountains

The High Atlas and other ranges, with their Amazigh villages, wildlife and plants.

How I work

A trip shaped around you

I adapt to what you need: small groups, private or solo trips, and tailor-made programmes. I reply quickly, we speak plainly from the first message, and I take you both to the famous spots and to places few people ever see.

  • Your wellbeing comes first

I want you to have an unforgettable trip, to get close to Amazigh culture, its food and its way of life, and to head home wanting to come back.

  • Safety before everything

If the wind or the weather say no, I change the plan. I would rather adapt the route than take needless risks.

  • Knowing the land

I know the geography, history, villages and customs of the areas I work in inside out. The better I know a place, the better I can share it with you.

  • Routes that make sense

I design interpretive routes so you understand what you see: the landscape, the nature and the culture we meet along the way.

  • Wildlife, plants and stars

I point out birds, plants, trees and constellations, and explain the part each one plays in the ecosystem.

My team

I don't travel alone

I guide you myself, but a good trip takes many hands. I'm joined by a trusted team with long experience in the mountains, the desert and looking after travellers.

  • Cooks

They make Moroccan food in the middle of nowhere. Drop by their kitchen tent and ask for their recipes.

  • Muleteers and camel drivers

Mules in the mountains and camels in the desert: they carry and set up the camps and take you to corners you can only reach on foot.

  • Drivers

    They handle transfers by vehicle.

  • Licensed partners

Accommodation, agencies and tourist transport companies for the services I don't provide myself.

My commitments

What you can expect from me

  • Respect for the environment

We look after natural areas and the communities that welcome us, and leave every place as we found it.

  • Clear prices

You know from the start what your trip includes and what it doesn't, and I confirm the price in writing before you book.

  • Quality in every detail

From the route to the camp and the food, I take care of everything so all you have to do is enjoy it.

This is my third trek with Musta, and all I can say is that the experience is excellent. Every trip is better than the last. His professionalism, his kindness and his ability to handle any situation make the trip easy and very rewarding. Thank you, Musta! Thank you, my friend!

An unbeatable experience with Musta and his team. Our original plan was to climb M'Goun, but the wind made it impossible, so Musta's focus on the safety of the people travelling with him also deserves a mention. The camps were set up in beautiful spots and the food was always delicious, well prepared and plentiful. You couldn't ask for more!
